Stan Hatch and Paul McCann are simply Stan and Paul. That's the only simplification I'll be able to offer here. That's because good musical comedy has a certain level of complexity. From the opening "Fire Ants," which is more like a folk-rap tune than anything else, you're going to get a huge kick out of this album. Stan and Paul have captured clean comedy in music like few others.
First, the music is flawless, which lets you focus on the lyrics. With Jack Saunders at the board, I would expect no less. Saunders also appears on the disc, as does fellow MTM member T.C. Smythe, and consummate cool dude, Rick Richards. The title cut is a highlight of the album and impressed me with the wonderful harmonies. There's a lot of dog stuff going on in "Little White Suburban Dog Blues." I think I just shook my head for a couple of minutes after hearing this one.
Stan and Paul are clever, funny, and excellent performers. There are a couple of straight-forward songs, but the thrust of the album is comedic, and that will be its glory. If you pass up this album you'll be 'boiling mad.' Get the disc and find out why.
